1984 Indira Gandhi Memorial 4-Coin Proof Set – Bombay Mint – Red Backing
A scarce and historically important Indira Gandhi Memorial 4-Coin Proof Set, issued by the Government of India following the assassination of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi (1917–1984). Although commemorating her death in 1984, the proof coins were struck at the Bombay Mint in 1985 and are identified by the “B” proof mint mark.
The complete proof set comprises four denominations – 50 Paise, ₹5, ₹20 and ₹100. The ₹100 denomination is the highlight of the set and is struck in 50% silver, while the 50 Paise, ₹5 and ₹20 coins are struck in copper-nickel.
This example is presented with the distinctive red backing/presentation board, making it particularly attractive to collectors of vintage Indian Mint proof sets. The coins feature the portrait and commemorative inscriptions associated with Indira Gandhi's 1917–1984 memorial issue.
The set is an important piece of modern Indian numismatic history and is highly suitable for collectors of Indian Proof Sets, Prime Minister commemorative coins, Indira Gandhi memorabilia, Bombay Mint issues and Indian silver commemorative coins.
