1974 Indian Masks Series Miniature Sheet
Issued by India Post on 15 April 1974, the Indian Masks Series Miniature Sheet is one of the earliest and most iconic miniature sheets of independent India. The sheet contains four commemorative stamps depicting traditional Indian masks: Sun (20p), Moon (50p), Narasimha (₹1), and Ravana (₹2), representing the rich heritage of Indian folk theatre, mythology, and performing arts. The Sun, Moon, and Ravana masks are traditionally used in the famous Ramlila performances of Ramnagar near Varanasi, while the Narasimha mask is associated with Bhagavata Mela traditions of South India. Enhanced with attractive ornamental margins, the miniature sheet showcases India's diverse cultural and artistic legacy. As only the second miniature sheet issued by India Post, it occupies a special place in Indian philately and remains highly sought after by collectors for its historical importance, artistic appeal, and limited availability
