Victoria Queen, Copper ¼ Anna, 1862
Queen Victoria, Copper ¼ Anna, 1862, British India issue. This
early post–Crown period copper fractional coin was struck following the
transfer of administration from the East India Company to the British Crown,
and features the youthful portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse with value
and date on the reverse. It represents an important transitional phase in
Indian coinage history, when imperial designs replaced Company motifs.
Collectors value the 1862 ¼ Anna type for its historical significance,
attractive Victorian portraiture, and its role as part of the foundational
copper series of British India.
