1939 George VI ¼ Rupee – Calcutta Mint (No Dot) | Head Type I, Reverse I | NGC MS 62

(0 review)

Struck in 1939 at the Calcutta Mint with no mint mark (No Dot), this silver ¼ Rupee of George VI represents the first year of issue for the denomination under the reign of King George VI. Catalogued as GK 1325 and Pridmore 472, the coin features the Head Type I portrait of George VI on the obverse and Reverse Type I on the reverse, with a milled edge characteristic of the series. Struck in silver, the coin reflects the refined craftsmanship and elegant design of late British Indian coinage.

Certified by NGC as MS 62, this specimen exhibits strong mint-state preservation with well-defined details, attractive original surfaces, and pleasing eye appeal. As a first-year issue of the George VI quarter rupee series and a comparatively difficult coin to locate in high mint-state grades, it holds significant appeal for collectors of British India silver coinage.

A rare and desirable specimen, this 1939 Calcutta Mint ¼ Rupee combines historical importance, silver content, and certified quality, making it an excellent addition to advanced collections of George VI coinage, British India silver denominations, and graded numismatic rarities.
