British India Government of India ₹1 notes of King George VI, from the wartime 1940 issue, signed by C. E. Jones, Secretary, Finance Department. The reverse carries the 1940 ₹1 coin design and the multilingual denomination panel. The ₹1 note was reintroduced in August 1940 as a wartime measure because of the shortage of metal for coins.
