1908 King Edward VII 1 Rupee – Calcutta Mint | Extremely Fine (XF)

(0 review)

Struck in 1908 during the reign of King Edward VII, this silver 1 Rupee is a desirable issue from the Edwardian era of British India. Minted at the Calcutta Mint, the coin bears no mint mark, the distinguishing feature of Calcutta issues. The obverse showcases the crowned portrait of King Edward VII, while the reverse features the denomination and date within the elegant floral wreath design that has become synonymous with the classic British India Rupee series.

An Extremely Fine (XF) coin, this specimen retains strong design details with moderate wear confined to the highest points. The portrait remains well-defined, legends are sharp and fully legible, and the reverse wreath exhibits excellent detail, reflecting careful preservation over more than a century. Struck in .917 fine silver, the coin combines intrinsic value with historical significance, making it highly appealing to collectors of British India and world silver coinage.

A handsome and well-preserved example, the 1908 Calcutta Mint 1 Rupee offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a classic Edward VII silver issue in attractive Extremely Fine condition. Its historical importance, silver content, and enduring numismatic appeal make it a worthy addition to any collection of British Indian coinage.
