"Indo-Dutch, Cochin mint, gold fanam, ND (1663-1724 AD), one of the earliest issues, bearing resemblance to the designs found on South Indian gold fanams, KM 6, 0.39g. Obv: Degenerated Kali. Rev: Lazy J above three rows of four dots each. Extremely fine, Scarce."
Rare early Indo-Dutch Cochin Gold Fanam, struck at the Cochin Mint during the Dutch period, ND (1663–1724) and catalogued as KM#6. This small hammered gold coin weighs approximately 0.39 g and represents one of the earliest Dutch issues from Cochin, closely following South Indian fanam traditions. The obverse carries a degenerated representation of Goddess Kali, while the reverse features the characteristic “Lazy J” design with “OC” above and three rows of four dots, representing the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The irregular hand-struck form and distinctive symbolism make this a desirable piece of early Dutch India and Kerala numismatics. Numista records KM#6 as a gold 1 Fanam of Cochin dated 1663–1724.
