Silver Rupia and ½ Rupia, 1935 & 1936 (KM 22 & KM 23), Portuguese India – Uncirculated (2 Coins)
This attractive pair comprises the silver 1 Rupia (1935, KM 22) and ½ Rupia (1936, KM 23) issued for Portuguese India (Goa) and struck at the Lisbon Mint. Both coins are minted in .917 fine silver, with the 1 Rupia weighing approximately 11.66 g and the ½ Rupia 6.00 g. The obverse features the shield of Portuguese India with the denomination, while the reverse displays the Portuguese national emblem and the inscription REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA. Issued in relatively limited quantities (300,000 for the 1 Rupia and 100,000 for the ½ Rupia), these coins are popular among collectors of Indo-Portuguese and colonial coinage. Uncirculated examples are especially desirable for their sharp details and original mint lustre.
