The Mexico Silver 5 Pesos, 1953 is one of the most popular large silver coins of the Mexican Republic. Struck at the Mexico City Mint (Mo) to commemorate the 200th Birth Anniversary of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the coin is composed of .720 fine silver, weighs 27.78 grams (containing 0.6431 troy oz of pure silver) and measures 40 mm in diameter. The obverse features the Mexican coat of arms—an eagle holding a serpent perched on a cactus—along with the weight, fineness and denomination, while the reverse depicts a portrait of Miguel Hidalgo with the church of Dolores in the background. The edge bears the inscription "COMERCIO • AGRICULTURA • INDUSTRIA". Owing to its large size, historical significance, and silver content, it remains a favourite among world coin collectors.
