British India 1 Rupee, Bombay Mint, 1882

The 1882 One Rupee of Queen Victoria, struck at the Bombay Mint, is a prominent silver coin of British India and a favorite among collectors of Victorian-era coinage. The obverse features the crowned portrait of Queen Victoria facing left with the legend “VICTORIA QUEEN,” while the reverse bears the denomination “ONE RUPEE INDIA 1882” enclosed within an ornate floral wreath. This coin is the recognized “1 Dot Between Flower & Date” variety, identified by a single dot located between the floral ornament and the date on the reverse, a characteristic marker of certain Bombay Mint issues. Struck in .917 fine silver, the coin weighs approximately 11.66 grams, measures about 30.5 mm in diameter, and has a reeded edge. Its historical significance, silver content, and collectible die variety make the 1882 Bombay Mint rupee a desirable addition to any British Indian numismatic collection.
