British India 1 Rupee, Bombay Mint, 1862 5 Dot
The 1862 One Rupee of Queen Victoria, Bombay Mint (5 Dot Variety) is a highly collected silver coin from the early British India series issued under Crown rule. The obverse features the youthful crowned portrait of Queen Victoria with the legend “VICTORIA QUEEN,” while the reverse bears the denomination “ONE RUPEE INDIA 1862” enclosed within an ornate floral wreath. Struck in .917 fine silver, the coin weighs approximately 11.4 grams, measures about 30.5 mm in diameter, and has a reeded edge. The Bombay Mint issue is identified by the presence of five dots (5 Dot variety) below the date on the reverse, a mint mark used to distinguish it from Calcutta and other mint varieties. As one of the important mint-mark varieties of the 1862 rupee series, the Bombay 5 Dot rupee is a popular and historically significant coin among collectors of British Indian numismatics.
