George VI India 1937–40 2 Annas, 4 Annas, 6 Annas and 12 Annas (SG 251, 255, 256 & 258) is a desirable group from the first definitive stamp series issued under King George VI, printed by the Security Printing Press, Nashik. These pictorial issues are popularly known as the “Transport Series” because they depict various modes of mail transportation by land, sea and air, marking a significant departure from the purely portrait-based definitive stamps of earlier reigns. Issued between 1937 and 1940, the series combined attractive designs with practical postal use and remains one of the most collected sets of British India philately. This lot comprises four higher-value denominations in Never Hinged Mint (NHM) condition, preserving their original gum and fresh appearance, making them particularly appealing to collectors of George VI issues and pre-independence Indian postal history.
