Edward VII, Silver, Rupee, 1908, Calcutta mint, No mint mark. GK 946. PCGS Slabbed AU 55. Very Scarce.

Edward VII Silver Rupee 1908, Calcutta Mint (GK 946) is a British India imperial coin struck in .917 fine silver as part of the standard rupee series widely circulated across the Indian subcontinent during the Edwardian era. The obverse features the crowned and draped bust of King Edward VII with surrounding imperial titles, while the reverse carries the denomination “One Rupee” within a floral wreath along with the date of issue, typically without a distinct mint mark for Calcutta-struck rupees of this type. This issue reflects the mature and widely accepted silver rupee standard that underpinned colonial India’s monetary system in the early 20th century. The example graded PCGS AU55 is an About Uncirculated coin showing light wear on the highest points with partial retention of original mint luster, indicating limited circulation before preservation. Its designation as “Very Scarce” highlights its relative difficulty in higher collectible grades, particularly in certified slabs with strong eye appeal within the Edward VII rupee series.
