Victoria Empress, Silver, Rupee, 1882, Bombay Mint, A3/I, Dot. GK 474. PCGS Slabbed MS 61.Rare.

Queen Victoria Silver Rupee 1882, Bombay Mint (A/III, Dot variety) (GK 474) is a British India imperial coin struck in .917 fine silver during the later phase of Victorian coinage, when India operated under the formal title of the British Raj with Queen Victoria as Empress. The obverse features the crowned and veiled bust of Queen Victoria with the legend “Victoria Empress,” while the reverse displays the denomination “One Rupee” within a floral wreath along with the date and Bombay mint mark, with the noted A/III (Type A3/I) portrait classification and Dot variety indicating specific die and minting characteristics. This issue represents the mature standardization of British India silver rupee coinage, widely used in commerce across the subcontinent. The example graded PCGS MS61 is an uncirculated specimen with original mint luster and light contact marks consistent with bag handling, and its designation as “Rare” reflects its relative scarcity in certified Mint State condition, particularly for identified varieties within the 1882 Bombay Mint series.
